UPDATE: The teen was found Tuesday evening by a K-9 unit from Sumter County.
SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A search continues in Sumter County for a missing teen who has autism.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says 16-year-old Peyton Pickard left his home in the area of County Road 575 and west County Road 48 in Bushnell on foot. He was last seen wearing only his underwear (black boxer shorts).
SCSO asked for the public to be on the lookout for Peyton Monday night in a Facebook post.
According to SCSO, Peyton is non-verbal and has a burn scar on his right leg.
SCSO has set a perimeter search for Peyton, with a large law enforcement presence remaining close to his home. They have recently extended the search further, with law enforcement now looking for Peyton along the Withlacoochee River.
The sheriff’s office says they are also receiving assistance from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
