SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says an employee’s social media account has been hacked. They’re warning residents not to fall for a scam that looks like it’s coming from them.
SCSO posted a community alert on its Facebook page on Tuesday, Oct. 17, saying the hacker is attempting to solicit funds from residents.
“We will not, nor will any of our employees reach out to you via social media to request money,” said SCSO.
They urge you to not provide any personal information from someone that appears to be from the sheriff’s office.
Their advice… disregard any messages that fit this description.
If you have any questions about communication on social media, you can call SCSO at the non-emergency number 352-793-2621.
