SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com)  – Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, a temporary road closure will be in effect during the day north of C 466 on CR 209 as road crews work to improve the intersection.

The closure is expected to last about four to six weeks, weather permitting. To maintain traffic flow and safety for travelers during this time, a detour route will be provided.

The road project includes the installation of a mast arm traffic signal with pedestrian features at the intersection of C 466 and CR 209. The project will also include the construction of an eastbound right-turn lane on C 466 and separate northbound left-turn and right-turn lanes, with a corresponding southbound left-turn lane on CR 209.

Funded by road impact fees, the entire project is expected to be completed in April 2026.

While the detour is in place, Sumter County encourages drivers to exercise caution, follow posted signage, allow for extra travel time, and reduce their driving speeds when traveling to ensure the safety of everyone on the roadway. This work is part of Sumter County’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve roadway safety and infrastructure as the community continues to grow.
