GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE, 3/7/24: The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) has arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a deadly shooting on Monday.
On Tuesday, detectives charged 18-year-old Terrell N. Weeks with homicide for the shooting that occurred in the Eastwood Meadows public housing community.
The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 24-year-old Tyren E. Certain.
ACSO says Weeks was taken into custody shortly after the shooting on other outstanding warrants.
“Another senseless tragedy,” Alachua County Sheriff Emery Gainey. “If you decide to arm yourself and chose violence in our county, we are going to hold you accountable. Weeks is an 18-year-old young man that has been adjudicated in the past as an adult for gun crimes. Violent acts with firearms will end with you in my jail.”
ORIGINAL, 3/5/24: The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is investigating a deadly shooting.
Deputies say the shooting happened Monday around 4:30 p.m. outside Eastwood Meadows apartments, a public housing community in Southeast Gainesville.
ACSO says they received multiple calls from residents about hearing gunfire.
Once on scene, deputies say they found a dark-colored sedan near the apartment complex mailboxes with a man slumped inside, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Alachua County Fire Rescue transported the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“We want your information, not your name,” said the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post.
