LEESBURG, FL (352today.com) – The Dandelion Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals coping with loss, is broadening its reach in Lake and Sumter counties with a series of upcoming initiatives.
In collaboration with Morrison United Methodist Church, the organization introduced a Tree of Remembrance in December. Situated in front of the Sanctuary on Main Street in downtown Leesburg, the tree allows community members to honor loved ones by placing themed ornaments.
Following Valentine’s Day hearts, the tree will feature St. Patrick’s Day decorations later this month, with plans to continue this tradition for each holiday throughout the year. Additionally, a rock garden beneath the tree invites individuals to decorate stones in memory of their loved ones.

The Dandelion Project’s Hugs from Heaven program offers free bereavement boxes to children and adults grieving a loss. Thanks to donations and sponsorships, these boxes are provided at no charge. The first three were delivered to Advent Health’s Bereavement Department in Ocala at the end of January. The program also includes sponsorships, such as the recent support for two students at Extreme Ice in North Carolina, in memory of Quinn Bolton, an 18-year-old who passed away in 2015 from a rare autoimmune disease.
Looking ahead, the organization is preparing for the DJ’s Dreams Sponsorship, honoring Lisa Bolton’s son DJ, who passed away in 1989, and the Kerri’s H.O.P.E. Sponsorship, in memory of her daughter Kerri, who died in 2019. Additional bereavement boxes are scheduled for delivery this month.
On Saturday, April 5, The Punishers LEMC – Brick City Chapter will host a ride to raise awareness and support for grieving children. The event begins at Charlie Horse in Ocala, with check-in at 11:00 AM and the ride starting at noon. Non-riders are invited to the Leesburg Chapter Clubhouse for activities, vendors, and a live performance by local artist Noah Hunton at 3:30 PM.
Preregistration for riders opens on February 17. The Dandelion Project is also seeking additional vendors, including food trucks. Interested parties can contact Lisa Bolton at lisa@dandelionproject.net.
“We’re grateful for all the support as we continue to spread love, healing, and hope to those in need,” said Lisa Bolton, founder of The Dandelion Project.
