OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Mellow Mushroom fans in Marion County are salivating. They’ve been waiting for years for the pizza place to open in downtown Ocala.
The wait is almost over. Restaurant management and a Facebook post say the grand opening is Monday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m.
On Friday evening, the restaurant opened for a couple of hours for the media and invited members of the community to get a sneak peek and sample a limited menu of salads and stone-baked pizzas including “fan favorite the Mighty Meat” which is topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, honey ham and applewood-smoked bacon. It also provided employees with the chance to do a real-time run-through before the doors open to the public.

“Our staff has been working hard in preparation for this event and we are very excited to show off our menu, skills and delicious food!” management said in invitation. The Friday event was also a fundraiser for local firefighters.
“Nestled in the heart of downtown, our restaurant stands proudly in Ocala’s historic district on W Fort King Street,” said Mellow Mushroom on its website. “As the horse capital of the world, history has been an essential ingredient for the creation of Mellow Mushroom Ocala.”
The restaurant is located at 2 W. Fort King St. at the intersection of South Magnolia Avenue in downtown. The website says the restaurant will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
