GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – If you’ve been thinking about adding a pet to your pack, today might be the day to take that step.

The Humane Society of North Central Florida (HSNCF) is hosting a free adoption event Saturday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They call the event “Home for the Holidays.”

“It’s not just about finding homes for pets; it’s about creating connections that bring immeasurable joy to both the
animals and their new families,” said Humane Society Executive Director Chelsea Bower. “The holiday season is all about love, and what better way to embody that spirit than by giving these animals a chance for a warm, loving home?

HSNCF says all pets over five months old and weighing more than 25 pounds can be yours for free. All adoptable animals will be sterilized (aka spayed/neutered), vaccinated, and microchipped.

“Every adoption is a story of transformation, and being part of this event means contributing to countless tales of happiness and companionship,” said Bower. “It’s not just an event; it’s a heartfelt celebration of giving the gift of family and home during the most wonderful time of the year.”

The staff tells us that they’re typically able to adopt out somewhere between 45 and 75 pets during this event each year.

Santa Claus will also be making a special appearance at this year’s event. HSNCF encourages you to bring your pets for pictures with St. Nick. Photo sessions are available for a donation of $25, and for those who bring a dog food or cat food donation, the fee is reduced to $20.

Adoptions take place at the Humane Society of North Central Campus which is located at 4205 NW 6th St. in Gainesville.
