GRAND ISLAND, FL (352today.com) – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says County Road 44 (CR44) is shutdown in both directions in Grand Island.
Deputies say CR44 is blocked near Apiary Road near the Wedgewood subdivision.
The sheriff’s office says this is due to a fire at an electrical substation that was caused by lightning. Emergency personnel are currently on scene blocking the road.
Traffic should either use County Road 473 as an alternative or they will be redirected through the Wedgewood subdivision to County Road 452.
Listeners to our sister radio station K-Country say traffic is a mess.
In a news release, Lake County Emergency Management Agency says the lightning strike took out power to the area on Sunday around 6:45 p.m.
“The fire resulted in nearly 10,000 homes losing power Sunday night. A second fire at a cell phone tower was reported moments later,” the post said.
