CITRA, FL (352today.com) – A person was killed early Sunday morning when a CSX train struck a passenger vehicle at a railroad crossing in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash happened around 1:55 a.m. at the intersection of NE 180th Street and NE 24th Street, several blocks east of U.S. 301 in Citra.

Marion County Fire Rescue pronounced the vehicle occupant deceased at the scene. Authorities had not identified the individual as of 5:30 a.m.

No details were released about other occupants, injuries, or the circumstances leading to the collision.

FHP is conducting a homicide traffic investigation.

Following the crash, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office announced that NE 175th Street Road would remain closed for an extended period.
