OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Travel back in time to the 1800s during a two-day festival held in Ocala this weekend.
The City of Ocala is hosting the ‘Festival at Fort King‘ on Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days at the Fort King National Historic Landmark and Visitor Center. The address for the center is 3925 E. Fort King St.
The event was created to demonstrate what led up to the start of the Second Seminole War. Some of the event’s activities include historic homesteading demonstrations, historical reenactments, field artillery demonstrations, animal encounter programs, and more!
You’ll also get the opportunity to participate in historic-themed crafts, games and workshops. You can also shop; as well as enjoy food and drinks.
Bernadette Castro, a trustee for the Fort King Heritage Foundation, says the fort was built to imitate the exact ones that existed in the 1800s.
“The fort itself is a real fort. It’s made to the same dimensions as the one in the 1800s. You really get an image because you can walk inside this fort and, of course, in those days they were interior buildings,” said Castro.
Castro says the event will really take you back in time to get a better understanding of the Sunshine State’s history during those years.
“The Florida history in the 1800s is really interesting and I think visiting the fort will inspire people to study it a little more,” added Castro.
