LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says a 13-year-old boy died as a result of Hurricane Debby.

Deputies received the report of the fallen tree on Monday morning and were dispatched to the scene around 8 a.m., just as the storm was making landfall near Steinhatchee about 40 miles away.

They say the tree fell into a home located at 8770 NW 168th Place in Fanning Springs.

The tree sliced through the mobile home and crushed the teen inside.

LCSO says there were no other injuries.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this family as they deal with this tragedy,” wrote LCSO in a news release. “We encourage everyone to use extreme caution as they begin to assess and clean up the damage.”

LCSO stressed the importance of safety as Hurricane Debby continues to wreak havoc on North Central Florida.

“Downed powerlines and falling trees are among the many hazards. One life is too many. Please be safe.”
