TAMPA, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is asking for your assistance trying to find the driver who hit an ambulance that was transporting a stroke patient.

The accident happened Friday night just after 7 p.m. on Interstate 4 westbound, east of Thonotosassa Road (Exit 19).

Troopers say an ambulance from Polk County Fire Rescue was transporting a 40-year-old stroke patient to a Tampa-area hospital and driving with its emergency lights activated when a driver going at a high rate of speed attempted to pass.

FHP says the vehicle collided with the left, rear side of the ambulance. Troopers say the vehicle kept going westbound on I-4 while the ambulance came to a controlled stop on the shoulder.

Following the crash, the patient was airlifted from the scene for advanced medical care.

Troopers say the two paramedics in the ambulance were not hurt in the accident.

FHP is searching for the driver of a silver or grey Chrysler 300 that should have significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding this incident is asked to call Florida Highway Patrol at *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
