OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A system in the Gulf of Mexico could potentially become a major hurricane over the next few days.
Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) as it heads toward Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The NHC predicts that this storm, expected to be called Tropical Storm Helene, could develop Tuesday and could strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday morning.
Currently, the NHC is keeping an eye on the Florida’s Big Bend area where they say a Category 3 or higher might strike, likely making landfall on Thursday in the late morning to early afternoon.

The NHC notes that North Central Florida should prepare for serious weather from early Thursday until mid-afternoon Friday. The biggest risks include heavy flooding, storm surges, and strong winds.
