MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Two teens have been charged with the murder of an Ocala teen who died during a shooting in June.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), on June 19, law enforcement responded to the 4400 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue in Ocala after receiving reports of several shots being fired.
Deputies learned 19-year-old Tylique Christie had been shot during what they say was supposed to be a drug deal to sell marijuana. Deputies say Christie was gone before they got there. They say he driven to a local hospital by others who were in the car.
According to detectives, when Christie arrived to make the sale, 17-year-old Davinci Dawson approached the vehicle, took the marijuana, and then ran away. Afterwards, deputies say 20-year-old Luis Figueroa-Tirado shot the Christie at a close distance. According to MCSO, more shots were fired by others standing nearby but they have not yet been identified.
On Sept. 18, a grand jury indicted both suspects charging them with first-degree murder. Both are being held with no bond at the Marion County Jail.
Detectives were able to identify the two as suspects from several tips and forensic evidence, said MCSO in a Facebook post.
“This is another tragic instance of young people killing one another. A 19-year-old’s life was senselessly cut short and the two people who we’ve so far identified as doing it were 17 years old and 20 years old,” said Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods.
