OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025 that it has activated two new pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs) along State Road 200 between I-75 and U.S. 301 in Ocala.

Pedestrian hybrid beacons act similarly to traffic stoplights in order to enhance pedestrian safety along busy stretches of road. Once someone who wants to cross the street presses a button on the signal pole, the beacon first flashes yellow, then turns solid yellow, and then turns solid red to let motorists know they need to stop to let pedestrians across. Once the beacon begins flashing red, motorists may proceed with caution after the roadway is clear.

The two new beacons are located between SW 32nd Ave. and SW 26th St., and between SW 12th Ave. and SW 10th Ave. A third beacon has been installed between SW 35th Terrace and SW 34th Ave., and will be activated next week.
