MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to two traffic incidents in Marion County within a span of 12 hours, resulting in two fatalities.
Oct. 25: Motorcycle and Pickup Collision on County Road 315
On the evening of Oct. 25 at approximately 8:16 p.m., a motorcycle and a pickup truck collided on County Road 315 in Fort McCoy. FHP reports that a 36-year-old Fort McCoy man was riding an unregistered motorcycle without proper lighting equipment, traveling southbound directly in front of an 18-year-old Fort McCoy man driving a pickup truck. Due to the lack of lighting on the motorcycle, the truck driver could not see it, leading to a rear-end collision.
FHP reports that the impact caused the motorcycle to veer off into a ditch on the west grass shoulder, while the truck continued south, stopping shortly beyond the collision area just south of NE 225th Pl. The motorcyclist was reported dead by FHP.
Oct. 26: Fatal Collision on NE 160th Ave Road
Early the next morning, on Oct. 26, a two-vehicle crash occurred on NE 160th Ave. Rd., about 0.4 miles south of NE 180th St., resulting in the death of a 64-year-old Fort McCoy man. The wreck happened around 6:40 a.m., and FHP closed the road for several hours to investigate. The roadway was reopened at 10:09 a.m. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
