HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Two people walked away from a plane crash in Hernando County Friday afternoon.
The impact of the crash left the small plane split in two.
Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) and the Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to the crash shortly after noon on Friday.
HCFR says the plane lost power and the pilot attempted to land on Pine Island Drive when it struck a palm tree, slicing the plane in half.
The crash site was about a mile north of the Bayport Inn.
The sheriff’s office said there were two people on board. Both were pilots who were able to climb out of the wreckage on their own. HCSO says they sustained only minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
Based on the tail number, N734xT, the 1977 single-engine Cessna is registered to American Aviation Inc. which is based in Brooksville.
