OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Appleton Museum of Art will unveil “What If Eye: Fifty Years of Exploration with Ummarid Eitharong” on Feb. 28, running through Aug. 3, 2025, in the first-floor Edith-Marie Gallery.
The exhibit celebrates the dynamic career of Ummarid “Tony” Eitharong, a Florida artist whose work spans five decades.

Eitharong’s artistic journey began with a bet at the Kennedy Space Center, where he wagered he could replicate a mural. That victory launched a career marked by constant reinvention. The exhibit features over 50 pieces, tracing his evolution from realistic pencil portraits in the 1970s and ’80s to mixed media works in his Military Industrial Art series from the ’90s and 2000s, culminating in vibrant acrylic paintings from the past 15 years.
“Tony’s expansive range is truly special,” said Jason Steuber, Appleton director. “We’re proud to showcase a Florida artist admired locally and beyond.”

Sponsored by Fine Arts for Ocala, the exhibit opens with a Director’s Circle Reception on March 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., featuring Eitharong, hors d’oeuvres, and live music by Becky Baby. RSVP by March 2 to Colleen Harper at harperc@cf.edu or 352-291-4455, ext. 1830.
Regular admission applies, with free entry on the first Saturday of each month, supported by CAMPUS USA Credit Union and others. Visit AppletonMuseum.org for details.
