OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The U.S. Forest Service is urging travelers to use caution as seasonal conditions increase the risk of wildfires and hazardous driving conditions in and around Florida’s forests.
With spring approaching, dry and windy weather could lead to an uptick in wildfires, potentially creating smoky conditions that may impair visibility on roadways. Morning fog, common this time of year, could further compound the risk, especially in areas near and through forested regions.
Peak camping season is currently underway, and with Spring Break approaching, more visitors are expected in popular outdoor areas, including the Ocala National Forest. Additionally, upcoming events such as the Daytona 500 and Daytona Bike Week are expected to bring heavier traffic, increasing the potential for travel hazards.
The Forest Service advises drivers encountering smoke or fog to slow down, turn on low-beam headlights, and remain vigilant for sudden changes in visibility. Motorists should check local road conditions before traveling and be prepared for possible detours or closures in wildfire-prone areas.
