GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The City of Gainesville is seeking volunteers to honor veterans buried at the historic Evergreen Cemetery.

The 167-year-old Evergreen Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 1,100 U.S. veterans, according to the city. Some even served as early as the Second Seminole War (1835-1842).

On Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., volunteers will place flags on the graves of veterans across the cemetery, spanning more than 53 acres. Veterans Day falls on the following Saturday, Nov. 11.

Everyone is invited to participate, and families and groups are encouraged to volunteer. Flags and maps of the cemetery will be provided. Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable walking shoes.
