OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It’s hard enough to think about next month let alone next year… planning for more than 25 years from now may seem unimaginable for some.

That’s what city leaders have to do. They have to make plans for some things they may never see in their lifetime.

The City of Ocala is in the process of creating the vision plan for 2050.

“The vision for a municipality acts as a roadmap for the future. It is built upon community consensus to promote continued support and implementation over time,” said the city on its website. “The vision document acts as the basis for the Comprehensive Plan, which is the regulatory blueprint for the community.”

Ocala’s current comprehensive plan “Ocala 2035 Vision” was completed and adopted by the Ocala City Council in October 2010.

The 2035 vision process is responsible for several initiatives including form based code which regulates new development and redevelopment within a designated area. According to the plan, the city’s goal was to create “a dynamic, mixed use downtown using pedestrian-oriented design principles.”
