WILDWOOD, FL (352today.com) – Wildwood officials are asking residents living on city-maintained streets to complete piling their vegetative debris from Hurricane Milton by Monday, Oct. 28, 2024. The Public Works Department is preparing for the second and final round of debris collection following the storm.

“Our crews have been working extended shifts and have already completed one round of collection,” explains Public Works Director Jeremy Hockenbury. “They will begin the second and final pass throughout the city next Monday.”

Residents need to stack any leftover plant debris into rows along the edge of the road, but not on the street itself. It’s important that the debris is not bagged and does not include non-plant items like plastic, metal, furniture, or regular trash. Combining non-plant items with yard waste can slow down emergency disposal and may lead to the debris not being picked up.

Officials say that residents on private roads should reach out to their homeowner’s association or property management for rules on debris disposal. Those in The Villages are advised to follow the cleanup instructions from their district management.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation in properly preparing debris piles,” Hockenbury adds. “We want to get our residential neighborhoods cleaned up as quickly as possible, but we can’t do it without the help of our citizens. It truly is a community-wide effort.”
