WILDWOOD, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE 11/10: The golf cart parade begins at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10. It begins at the Wildwood Community Center, winds through downtown Wildwood streets past city hall and ends at American Legion Post 18, located at 401 E. Gulf Atlantic Highway.
ORIGINAL 10/17: The City of Wildwood will honor veterans with a parade and a display. City Hall will host a display featuring the names of local men and women who have served in the military throughout November. There will also be a golf cart parade, cohosted by American Legion Tri-City Post 18, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.
“The sacrifices our veterans have made to protect and serve are immeasurable,” said Wildwood City Manager Jason McHugh. “We hope these efforts on our part will help to recognize the courage and honor each of these individuals has modeled through their service to our country.”
Veterans or their loved ones are invited to submit names, branch, location and dates of service, as well as any honors awarded to add to the display.
“Last year, we collected the names of more than 100 individuals,” said Amanda Salazar, Wildwood parks and rec director, who coordinates the annual presentation. “But we know there are many more veterans in our community than we have identified to date, and we want to be able honor and thank each one through this exhibit of appreciation.”
The golf cart parade is something new, according to Roni Wood, community outreach specialist for the Wildwood police department.
“We are so grateful to the men and women who have served our country, and wanted to do something extra to recognize them on Veterans Day,” said Wood. “We are thankful to be able to partner with the American Legion to put this together.”
Those wishing to participate in the golf cart parade will need to obtain a free, one-day exemption pass before Nov. 10. A program will follow at the American Legion at 401 E. Gulf Atlantic Highway in Wildwood at 11 a.m. for those who are not interested in participating or watching the parade.
