LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – On Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, the Levy County 911 Center received a call from a juvenile who said a man was dead inside a home in Williston. Deputies arrived and confirmed Jason Hawks (3/17/77) of Williston was deceased from multiple gunshots.
Detectives determined Laura Hawks (3/31/70) of Williston resided in the same home with her ex-husband Jason. During the course of the investigation Detectives learned there was an extensive history of domestic violence between Laura and Jason. Laura told Detectives she armed herself with a firearm alleged to belong to Jason on the day prior. She shot Jason several times when he entered the bedroom they shared.
Evidence indicated Jason did not immediately succumb to his injuries and lay bleeding inside the residence for several hours. Laura made no effort to call for emergency service to render aid or report the shooting. She instead covered his remains with clothing to conceal him. She told detectives she intended to bury him in the back yard to avoid arrest.
Laura Hawks was arrested for premeditated murder, tampering with evidence and failure to report the death. She is being held in the Levy County Detention Center with no bond.
