MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A workplace accident claimed the life of a construction worker Monday afternoon at the World Equestrian Center (WEC), located at 1750 NW 80th Ave.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to the scene after receiving a call reporting an accidental death.

According to authorities, Juan Medina Martinez, 29, was working on scaffolding at a hotel under construction within the WEC complex when he fell approximately 40 feet to the concrete foundation below.

Site supervisor Phil Resmondo informed investigators that Medina Martinez had been transitioning between tiers of the scaffolding, which required him to temporarily detach his safety harness. A wooden board beneath him unexpectedly shifted, causing the fatal fall.

Emergency responders pronounced Medina Martinez dead at the scene.
