
From football to tennis, there’s plenty of fun for Gator fans this weekend.

Marion County law enforcement will be pounding the pavement this morning escorting the Special Olympics torch to the World Equestrian Center, kicking off a weekend of competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Team Ireland emerged victorious at Saturday’s Longines League of Nations horse jumping event at the World Equestrian Center.

19-year-old Trevor Etienne is a midyear transfer from Florida, where he led the Gators with nine touchdowns last year and emerged as one of the team’s most dynamic playmakers.

Florida’s players wore warmup shirts with injured teammate Micah Handlogten’s name and jersey number, 3, on the back.

Competition came down to a tiebreaking jump off. In the end, a little more than one second separated first and third place finishes in the Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix jumping event on Thursday at WEC.

The sound of bone apparently breaking could be heard on TV with blood immediately visible on the back of his calf.

Florida will face either Colorado or Boise State in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The Gators won’t know until the outcome of the play-in game late Wednesday night.

Florida will take on Texas A&M around 3:30 p.m. ET, immediately after Auburn and Mississippi State play.

The horse jumping and driving competition takes place at Live Oak Stud Farm in Ocala.
