GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) has arrested a Dixie County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputy on drug charges.

According to DCSO, 41-year-old James Yakubsin of Alachua is accused of illegally purchasing methamphetamine, Adderall and Suboxone. Suboxone is a prescription opioid used to treat opioid addiction.

They say it all started in October when the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) received information that Yakubsin was purchasing the drugs. In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office says Yakubsin purchased drugs from two ‘known drug dealers’ while on and off-duty.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy also warned his drug dealers to “stay away” from another drug dealer he knew was under investigation. DCSO says he used his law enforcement privileges to search databases to make sure there were no warrants for or active investigations into his drug dealers.

“After learning of this investigation and arrest, James Yakubsin’s employment with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office was terminated immediately,” said Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler.

ACSO deputies arrested Yakubsin on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and booked into the Alachua County Jail.

Charges against him include:

  • purchase of a controlled substance
  • conspiracy to purchase a controlled substance
  • unlawful use of a two-way communications device
  • misuse of law enforcement databases

The State Attorney’s Office of the 8th Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case.
