OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Marion County is marking its 180th anniversary this weekend and throwing a community bash to celebrate.

Many of the county government departments will have booths at the event to showcase their services. Among them, Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) will have its mobile adoption unit and a few shelter dogs who will undoubtedly be wagging their tails in hopes of finding a forever home.

In addition to learning about the county’s history, browsing arts & crafts, enjoying family-oriented activities, you could fall in love with a four-legged friend this weekend.

Marion County Day is Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McPherson Governmental Complex located at 601 SE 25th Ave.

If you don’t find the perfect pet for you there, the shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All this month, if you wear green when you head to MCAS, the pet adoption fee will be waived.

Here are just a few faces who are hoping to be adopted.

TAKE ME HOME THIS WEEK – MARCH 20, 2024

Who loves redheads? Four-year-old Sassy is hoping for a little luck of the Irish this month while she continues her search of a new family. This girl is a big fan of meeting new people while on a nice, leisurely walk. She loves to show off that beautiful smile! Courtesy: MCAS
We are looking forward to helping Kane Kane have a bright future. This one-year-old girl was found by MCAS living in undesirable conditions- not the life she deserved. We can’t wait until the day that she has freedom to explore and enjoy every room of her new home and feels loved wherever she may land. Courtesy: MCAS
Ten-year-old Luna is looking for a place to bask in the sun. She doesn’t quite have the energy she used to have, so a comfortable place to snooze is one of the most important things to her these days. Courtesy: MCAS
