OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It’s Arbor Day which is celebrated nationally on the last Friday in April.

It’s the day when we’re encouraged to get our hands in the dirt and plant a tree. The Arbor Day Foundation says trees provide our planet with cleaner air, cooler temperatures, wildlife protection and more.

The Arbor Day Foundation has set a goal of planting 500 million trees by 2027 in areas where they’re needed most.

Locally, there is a free tree giveaway today, Friday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to noon at Morningside Nature Center which is located at 3540 E. University Ave. in Gainesville.

The public is invited to participate in a tree planting in Gainesville on Saturday, April 27. Alachua County Tree Planting Program, in cooperation with the University of Florida, will plant 25 new trees to improve the Tower Road neighborhood. The trees will be placed along SW Tower Road’s pedestrian path near the 8th Avenue intersection. The event starts at 10 a.m. Organizers say parking is available at 7115 SW 8th Ave. in Gainesville.

Mother Nature will make it tolerable to plant a tree or two or three… whether you do it today or this weekend.

So, grab the shovel and have a great weekend.
