OCALA, FL (352today.com/AP) – As expected, Hurricane Idalia’s winds have downed trees and power lines as the Category 3 storm made landfall on Wednesday morning. Thousands of linemen descended on Florida prepared to restore to storm-ravaged areas. At an emergency services briefing on Wednesday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis said crews were able to restore power to 100,000 customers in south Florida within eight hours. As of just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Associated Press says 242,000 customers are without electricity across Florida.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management says downed power lines pose a significant safety risk and remind you to assume downed lines are hot and to stay away from them.
If you’ve lost power, here’s how you can report the outage and get progress of restoration efforts.
