MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Reading aloud to young children is a powerful tool that can shape their future. Research shows that reading to children from an early age helps build a foundation for their future success in learning.
So, if you are at least 14 years old, passionate about sharing the joy of reading and learning with young children, then the library is looking for you.
The Marion County Public Library System is looking for volunteers for its “Library Express” program.

As a volunteer, you’ll be responsible for conducting a monthly story time session at a designated Head Start location throughout the school year.
Don’t worry if you haven’t spearheaded a story time before – the library provides thorough training on how to engage young children and make story time fun and interactive. You’ll also be provided with all the reading materials you need for the sessions.

If you would like to get involved in the program, here are the steps you need to follow:
- Apply: Volunteer applications are available online and in-person at all nine Marion County public libraries. The deadline to submit is Monday, August 26
- Approval: All volunteers must go through a confidential background check
- Training: You also have to attend a mandatory orientation and training session
- Commit: Lastly, you have to commit to the program’s schedule
