SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Sumter County Public Works Building has a new name to honor a half century of service.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, Sumter County held a ceremony to honor former County Commissioner and Public Works Director Garry Breeden.

The county renamed the building to honor Breeden who served Sumter County for 50 years.

Breeden began his work for the Sumter County Public Works Department in 1972, where he rose to Director in 1977 and stayed until 2004.

He then successfully ran for Sumter County Commissioner in 2006 and retained the seat until his retirement in 2022.

Craig Estep, the current Chairman of the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners, said it’s a privilege to rename the Sumter County Public Works Building in honor of Breeden’s dedicated service.

“Garry Breeden has been a public servant his entire life,” said Estep. “Mr. Breeden’s military service on the national level and his dedicated state and local service to the people of Sumter County, showcased his integrity and character as he put others before himself.”
