CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) had to act fast to save three dogs from a structure fire on Tuesday.

The fire occurred around 10:50 p.m. at a concrete block structure on W. Tangerine Ln. in Crystal River.  Units from CCFR arrived at the scene where they say they found smoke and fire spewing from the back of the building.

CCFR quickly set up a perimeter around the structure. They say that the structure owners told them that three dogs were trapped inside.  Units then found an entry point to the building where, at the rear of the house, they discovered a small porch with a dryer that was on fire.

According to CCFR, the fire started in the dryer and spread to the house and the attic area.  CCFR extinguished the fire within seven minutes of their response.

CCFR says all three dogs were safely located with no reported injuries.

The damages from the fire are estimated to cost $36,082 to fix, according to responders.

CCFR wants to remind residents of five important measures to take to prevent dryer fires:

  1. Clean the lint filter
  2. Check the vent system
  3. Don’t overload the dryer
  4. Avoid running the dryer unattended
  5. Provide regular maintenance when needed
