MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) team saved a hiker that had walked off a trail and couldn’t find her way back.
MCFR was dispatched around 5:42 p.m. on Aug. 30 to the Yearling Trail Head off North Forest Road 10 after receiving a call from a 911 dispatcher about a lost hiker. The hiker reportedly informed the dispatcher that she had strayed off the designated path.
Firefighters arrived at the trail and began searching for the hiker at her last known location.
The rescue team mentioned that they blew a whistle to help the hiker figure out where they were. The dispatcher, who was still talking to her, told the hiker to listen for the whistle and to “keep shouting” to grab the responders’ attention.
Responders say they located the hiker at 6:42 p.m. There were no reported injuries.
