TAMPA, FL (352today.com) – Florida gas prices remain stable as the fuel supply chain recovers from the impact of Hurricane Milton. As of Sunday, the statewide average price for a gallon of gas was $3.10, unchanged from the previous week, 5 cents lower than last month, and 27 cents less than this time last year, according to data from AAA.

Surging demand and power outages contributed to temporary gasoline shortages, particularly along key evacuation routes. State officials now report that conditions are gradually improving, according to AAA. Florida’s ports have reopened, and all but two gasoline terminals are back in operation, enabling tanker trucks to make around-the-clock deliveries.

As of Sunday evening, AAA says that about 20% of gas stations in Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties were without fuel. Additionally, some stations had fuel but lacked electricity to power their pumps. AAA mentions that state representatives expect 85% of Florida’s filling stations to have gasoline by Monday night, with supply levels anticipated to return to normal by Wednesday morning.

AAA says that fuel supplies are still rebounding, and it’s important for drivers to maximize their fuel efficiency. Here are some tips from the auto group:

  • Combine errands and carpool to minimize driving time.
  • Reduce speed: Fuel economy peaks around 50 mph on most vehicles and decreases as speed increases.
  • Drive conservatively: Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, as these behaviors can significantly reduce fuel economy.
  • Check tire inflation: Underinflated tires lower fuel efficiency and increase the risk of blowouts.
  • Remove excess weight: Every 100 pounds removed from a vehicle can improve fuel economy by 1-2%.
