FLORIDA, U.S. (352today.com) – A new report from internet service provider (ISP) selection portal highspeedinternet.com claims that the Sunshine State has the sixth-fastest median high-speed internet in the country.
The company combed through more than 4.7 million internet speed tests taken by users on both its online tool and app between July 20, 2025, and July 20, 2026, to compile median and average speeds in all 50 states and the District of Columbia over the past year.
Florida ranked sixth, with a median broadband internet speed of 176.08 Mbps (megabits per second, the standard measure of internet transmission speed for uploads and downloads). That number is well above the 131.94 Mbps national number for last year.
The U.S. states that beat Florida in internet speed
- 1. Delaware
- 2. New Jersey
- 3. New Hampshire
- 4. Connecticut
- 5. New York
South Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Tennessee rounded out the top 10, respectively.
Some other interesting takeaways
- All of the 10 states with the fastest internet speeds cleared 150 Mbps, which is three times the Federal Communication Commission’s 50 Mbps benchmark for broadband internet.
- The national median speed rose 5.26 percent year over year, from 125.35 Mbps to 131.94 Mbps.
- All of the top 10 states are in the Northeast or the South.
- Average speeds ran well above median speeds, suggesting that comparatively sparse gigabit connections are pulling up those average speeds–for instance, Florida’s average internet speed was 246.38 Mbps versus its median speed of 176.08 Mbps.

So, which states have the slowest high-speed internet? According to the highspeedinternet.com study, the bottom five are, in descending order, Iowa, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana and, perhaps not surprisingly, Alaska.
