GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – A trio of Gainesville City Commissioners were sworn in on the day of the city’s first commission meeting of the new year.

On Monday morning, Gainesville City Commissioner-elect James Ingle and Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker were sworn in at The Historic Thomas Center Gardens.

The ceremony, originally scheduled to take place outside, was moved inside due to inclement weather.

During the August 20 primaries, Gainesville voters elected Commissioner Ingle to the At-Large, Seat A. District voters reelected Commissioner Duncan-Walker to Gainesville’s District 1 seat.

Furthermore, Gainesville City Commissioner Cynthia Moore Chestnut was sworn in later that day at the start of the city’s commission meeting. She attended Monday’s commission meeting via Zoom.

Chestnut ran unopposed, retaining the At-Large, Seat B on Gainesville’s commission.

Following Chestnut’s official swearing-in, Commissioner Duncan Walker shared some words with the city.

“To the people of Gainesville… we have seen some unprecedented times as of late. I don’t know about you, but I look forward to 2025 with extraordinary hope, knowing that the individuals I am working alongside and those I have the opportunity of working for will make the most of that year,” said Duncan-Walker.

Commissioner Ingle followed suit.

“Thanks to all of the other commissioners for your welcome here. I’m looking forward to working with all of you,” proclaimed Ingle.
