OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The College of Central Florida Patriots baseball team dropped their first game of the season 10-3 at South Florida State College on Friday.

The team rebounded quickly by sweeping the South Georgia State College Hawks on Saturday in Ocala.

In the first game on Saturday freshman Jake Meadows tossed six strong innings allowing only three hits, one run, while striking out ten Hawk batters. Meadows earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. Miles Curley earned his first save by pitching the last inning allowing no runs and striking out one.

The Pats opened the scoring by plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Marcus Bradshaw drove home the first run with a double, followed by a two-run single by Bruno Schafer. A sacrifice fly by Victor Martinez gave the Pats their fourth and final run in the 4-1 win.

In game two, the pitching staff once again shined. Peyton Fall started and went 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, one run, and striking out nine. Jose Paniagua (1-0) earned the win in relief of Fall with 1.1 innings pitched allowing no hits, no runs, with two strikeouts. Arturo Ormaza would close out the game and garner his first save of the season by pitching the final inning allowing two hits, no runs, and striking out two.

Logan Chapman singled home Schafer in the bottom of the fourth to give the Pats a 1-0 lead. After South Georgia State tied the game at 1-1, the Pats erupted for three runs. The first two runs scored on back-to-back home runs by Martinez and Bradshaw.

The fourth and final run of CF’s 4-1 win came off the bat of Curley, who singled home Schafer. The sweep improved the #2 FCSAA ranked Patriots to 9-1 and dropped the Hawks to 3-7. CF will hit the road on Tuesday with a trip to Tallahassee State College for a 4:00 PM game. Conference play begins on Thursday when Miami-Dade College visits Ocala for a 2:00 PM game.
