MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is warning residents about a surge in scam calls from individuals impersonating law enforcement officers. These fraudsters use scare tactics to manipulate victims into sending money or providing personal information.
Scammers have been reported using various schemes, including:
- Claiming an arrest warrant exists in your name and demanding immediate payment to clear it.
- Stating that you failed to appear for jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid legal consequences.
- Posing as law enforcement or legal representatives, claiming a loved one is in jail and needs bail money.
- Soliciting donations for law enforcement-related causes or fallen officers.
MCSO emphasizes that they will never call residents demanding payment for a warrant, fine, or jury duty violation. Official jury duty notifications are sent through mail, not phone calls.
