The 2025 World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships (WMACi25) will take place in Gainesville from March 23-30, 2025. This will be the first time the event is held in the United States. The competition is expected to welcome over 3,700 athletes from more than 99 countries, along with an estimated 9,000 visitors.
The WMACi25 is an international multi-sport competition for athletes who are 35 and older, featuring 23 indoor and outdoor events, including indoor track and field, long throws, cross country, and race walking.
Potential Traffic Impacts:
- Higher volumes on I-75: With an estimated 9,000+ visitors, many from outside the U.S., there will likely be an increase in traffic between Ocala and Gainesville, particularly at peak travel times.
- Increased demand for hotels and restaurants: Many visitors may stay in Ocala due to limited lodging availability in Gainesville, leading to more daily commutes.
