ORMOND BEACH, FL (352today.com) – When warm weather hits, residents in the 352 often head to the 386 – the area code for Ormond Beach. An unfortunate event marred one beachgoer’s weekend.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) says that a 33-year-old Ocala man was injured Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle near a beach access point in Ormond Beach.

Deputies say the accident occurred around 10:43 a.m. near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp. They say that the man was sunbathing when a Jeep tried backing into a parking spot but traveled outside of the designated driving lanes and ran him over.

The man suffered injuries to his thigh and arm. Emergency responders took him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

VCSO says that the driver of the Jeep, a 61-year-old woman from Ormond Beach, stayer on the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement. Deputies cited her for careless driving. Authorities reported no signs of impairment.

The VCSO noted that the investigation is still active and that details may evolve as more information becomes available.
