OCALA, FL (352today.com) – If you’ve found yourself rerouting your usual downtown drive or struggling to find a safe path while pushing a stroller, you’re not alone. A recently closed area that was once open to traffic has raised concerns for many families and business owners alike.

However, that’s part of the price for growth and development that city officials say will ultimately enhance Ocala’s quality of life once the projects are completed.

Construction on the AC Hotel and Parking Garage No. 2 has impacted local businesses, as well as foot and vehicle traffic. Accommodations have been made for parking in nearby lots, with additional efforts underway to ease the inconveniences that have frustrated some within the community.

“The city is aware of the impacts and has made Parking Lots 7 and 9 free throughout the duration of construction,” said Aubrey Hale, City of Ocala city planner. “In addition, staff has met internally and determined that the first lift of pavement for SW 3rd Avenue and portions of Fort King Street will take place next week. Staff is also working towards striping the temporary lot, providing better signage, and installing temporary sidewalks within the next two weeks.”

The permanent sidewalks outside of the parking garage and hotel construction sites will be installed within approximately six months and may be in place sooner, said Hale.

“We will try to accommodate as best we can but inevitably there will be impacts from the ongoing construction that we cannot prevent,” said Hale.
