BELLEVIEW, FL (352today.com) – Looking for a free night out that’s both entertaining and informative? Belleview’s upcoming Identity Theft Awareness and Prevention Program on Tuesday, April 29, offers the perfect mix of movie fun and real-life advice on how to stay one step ahead of scammers.
The event features a free screening of Thelma, a critically acclaimed film (98% on Rotten Tomatoes) about a 93-year-old woman scammed out of $10,000 who takes matters into her own hands. With showings at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., attendees will also enjoy light refreshments.
Following the film, representatives from each organization will offer real-world advice on recognizing, avoiding, and reporting scams – especially those targeting seniors.
“This event is about more than just entertainment – it’s about education and empowerment,” says Robert Vass, the city’s Events & Promotions Manager. “Too often, victims feel ashamed or don’t know where to turn. We want everyone to leave feeling more confident and informed.”
Sergeant Michael Miley with the Belleview Police Department emphasizes the growing threat of identity theft. “Education is the best tool we have to fight back.”
SouthState Bank’s Regina Behlan adds, “Being proactive is the best defense, and we are committed to helping our community stay one step ahead of fraudsters.”
