OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and six Central Florida elementary schools are unveiling new bike lane icons designed by students, part of a regional push to promote safe cycling and transportation awareness.
Winning students will be recognized at ceremonies celebrating National Bike Month. The events are part of FDOT District Five’s ongoing efforts to promote transportation safety and engage young students through creative, hands-on activities.
The ceremonies will include the unveiling of the winning designs, certificate presentations, and in-class safety activities led by FDOT and its partners. Students and their families will join FDOT District Five Modal and Safety Office staff and school representatives as the new designs are revealed on streets and sidewalks near each school.
One of the first events will take place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Madison Street Academy of Arts, located at 401 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Ocala.
“The Department has been working with schools around Central Florida to teach safe walking and biking practices to students in our communities,” said Libertad Acosta-Anderson, Passenger Operations Manager for FDOT District Five. “What better way to encourage safe cycling practices than a fun personalized piece of artwork by their school.”
