MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Forest Service’s Waccasassa Forestry Center has announced that no outdoor burn authorizations will be issued today, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, and Putnam counties.
This temporary restriction is due to current weather conditions that pose an increased fire risk. Officials say the area is experiencing extremely dry conditions following several days without rainfall, combined with forecasts indicating unfavorable burning weather. These factors can contribute to erratic fire behavior and a rapid rate of spread.
The region is currently at Fire Readiness Level 3 out of 5, signaling heightened fire potential.
While there are no formal burn bans in place in these five counties, daily burn decisions are based on updated fire weather forecasts issued by the U.S. National Weather Service in Jacksonville.
Across the state, 26 counties have implemented mandatory burn bans, and one county has a voluntary ban in effect.
Residents are urged to monitor local advisories and use extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could spark a fire. For the most current fire danger updates, contact your local forestry office or emergency management agency.
