OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The featured speaker at the Ocala Metro CEP’s ExCEPtional Mornings at the Reilly Arts Center in Dec. 2024, was arrested June 9 on fraud and theft charges.
Angela Suggs, while in her role as the Florida Sports Foundation CEO, allegedly misused more than $24,000 in public funds. She was hired by Florida A&M University in November as the Historical Black College and University’s new athletic director. She turned herself in at the Leon County Jail and was released on $13,500 bond Monday afternoon.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement received a criminal referral last November from the Florida Department of Commerce’s inspector general as the Florida Sports Foundation is under the dept. of commerce and began an investigation into the matter. The Dept. of commerce had audited Suggs’s credit card purchases and travel reimbursements. Suggs, 55, has been charged with two felonies, grand theft and scheme to defraud.
Suggs, while on business trips for the sports foundation, allegedly made wire transfers, cash withdrawals and personal purchases at casinos to a corporate credit card. She has also been charged with four misdemeanors for falsifying travel vouchers, saying they were for meals. Suggs has also failed to repay the Florida Sports Foundation for her expenditures.
