MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) — A woman is facing attempted murder charges after authorities say she opened fire on a Marion County deputy from the back seat of his patrol vehicle during a transport early Monday morning.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Deputy A. Guillard arrested 22-year-old Rheanna Harden around 1 a.m. on June 23 for drug and traffic-related offenses. Harden was handcuffed, searched, and placed in the back seat of the patrol vehicle for transport to the Marion County Jail.
While traveling north on S Highway 441 near the 2900 block, investigators say Harden retrieved a concealed firearm from her pants and fired toward the deputy’s head. The patrol car crashed into a utility pole, prompting Deputy Guillard to exit the vehicle, return fire, and seek cover.
Guillard sustained a graze wound near his right eye. Harden was shot in the shoulder and hip. Both were treated at a local hospital and released.
Harden, a convicted felon with a record of drug, theft, and weapons charges, now faces new charges including Attempted Second Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. She is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.
