CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says a man was sentenced to mandatory life in prison Monday for murdering another man in 2021.

The sheriff’s office says David Julian Murrell has been sentenced to life in prison in the death of Stanley Haybron in Floral City. Deputies say on December 27, 2021, they received a report of a shooting that happened on South Great Oaks Drive. When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they found a 27-year-old white male suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The victim also told deputies he had been shot and gave a description of the suspects’ vehicle.

While tending to the victim, deputies located the vehicle where they found Haybron with multiple gunshot wounds. He succumbed to his injuries.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Murrell, and he was arrested on December 28, 2021. He was transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility where he was held without bond.

On January 13, 2022, court records show Murrell was indicted by a grand jury on charges of murder in the first degree, attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a firearm, and shooting at, within, or into an occupied vehicle. On Monday, he was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Joel Fritton, according to court records.

“Today, justice was served thanks to the outstanding teamwork displayed by CCSO and the State Attorney’s Office throughout this case,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast.  “This life sentence reflects our commitment to maintaining the safety and well-being of our residents. We will continue to work tirelessly to hold those who seek to harm the citizens of our community accountable for their actions.”

The State of Florida presented multiple forms of evidence at Murrell’s trial that linked him to being suspect in the case. Evidence includes a gray vehicle, gold and silver watch, 9mm gun casings, and fingerprints.
