HIGH SPRINGS, FL (352today.com) – An early morning fire damaged a home in Alachua County on Monday, April 27, 2026, displacing a family of four, officials said.
Fire units from High Springs, Newberry, Alachua County and LaCrosse responded around 1:55 a.m. to a reported residential fire on NW 143rd Rd. Crews arrived shortly after 2 a.m. to find heavy flames at the rear of the home, extending into the roof, a nearby woodline and a vehicle parked outside.
Firefighters began suppression efforts within minutes of arrival and brought the blaze under control at approximately 2:40 a.m. Additional structures in the area were threatened but ultimately spared.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said an electric vehicle on the property was moved before it was impacted by the fire and sustained only minor heat-related damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be a golf cart that was charging on the home’s rear patio.
Working smoke detectors alerted the occupants and an alarm monitoring company, allowing residents to evacuate safely. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
