LAKE COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Hurricane season here on the East Coast kicks in June 1 each year, which (unbelievably?) is only a few weeks down the road.

We here in the 352 managed to avoid any major impacts during the 2025 season after the previous year’s disastrous spate of storms. And most organizations offered long-range predictions for a normal or “near-normal” hurricane season for 2026, due to consistently warm sea surface temperatures and the potential influence of El Niño conditions.

But what does that really mean? And let’s be honest–we live in Florida, and the threat of a hurricane impact is very real every season.

It’s best to be prepared, and the Lake County Office of Emergency Management is getting things up and running with its annual Hurricane Expo on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

“This free, family-friendly event is designed to help residents prepare for the 2026 hurricane season by providing critical information and resources from public safety professionals, community partners, and emergency management staff,” read an announcement.

“Attendees can also learn how to build emergency supply kits, create evacuation plans, and stay informed during severe weather while enjoying interactive displays and hurricane-related vendors. Residents will also have the chance to take home preparedness supplies and enter a drawing for a chance to win a free generator.”

The event takes place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 2101 N. CR 452, Eustis.
